Congratulations Prof Kulkarni on Award of Helen Macpherson Smith Trust Impact Grant

Congratulations to Prof Jayashri Kulkarni and the Women's Mental Health Division on being awarded the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust Impact Grant for their project titled: An innovative holistic approach to women's mental health in rural and regional Victoria.

Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, an international expert in women’s mental health, and her team at Monash Alfred Psychiatry Centre (MAPrc), recognise that mental illness requires a gender-specific approach which is why, in 2010, they founded the Women’s Mental Health Clinic (WMHC) model. The WMHC model is a tertiary medical, psychiatric and endocrine consultation which differs from traditional psychiatric services as it provides a holistic approach to treating women’s mental illness by connecting each woman with experts across various specialities and providing them access to cutting edge research to ensure they receive the best possible treatment for their individual needs.

This project will improve access for women in regional and rural Victoria to specialised mental health services by providing safe and secure video-consultation service and increase mental health expertise of General Practitioners in these areas.
